An industry ministry official said that China Resources Holding Co,plans to spend US$3 billion in the next five years to build and expand a steel plant in Indonesia’s Kalimantan island.
I Putu Suryawiryawan,director of metal industry at the ministry of industry said recently that in the first stage,China Nickel will spend $220 million to start the construction of the steel plant in the middle of this year. He said that investment will rise to $3 billion in the next five years as the company builds supporting infrastructure such as roads.
He further said that production will rise from 500 000 tons of billet to 3 million tons of various steel products by 2015. Suryawirawan said that about 40 percent output will be sold in the domestic market and the rest will be exported to China.
